PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Tulbagh – Level 3 Water Restrictions (Very high danger of water shortage)
The Witzenberg Municipality wishes to bring to the attention of all Tulbagh residents the following announcement:
As a result of the low water level in the Tulbagh dam, Level 3 water restrictions has been implemented in the Tulbagh area, as from 1 April 2020.
As on 17 April 2020 the Tulbagh dam level was at 45% (Volume - 212 702m3). This water is sufficient for only 2,5 month’s usage. All residents are urged to comply with the measures of the water restriction notice, which was hand delivered to your post box, weekly announced on the municipal facebook page & published in bi –weekly Tulbagh e-news. The criteria applicable to the restrictions can be viewed at our municipal webpage with the following address - www.witzenberg.gov.za & facebook page - Witzenberg Municipality- Official.
Further steps will be taken in cases where the restrictions are not complied with.
Please use the following water saving tips to aid the water crisis in Tulbagh as well as stay safe during the current pandemic:
• Only flush the toilet when necessary. Don’t use it as a dustbin.
• Cut your showers to two minutes. A standard (non-water-saving) showerhead can use up to 16 litres of water per minute.
• Use a cup instead of running taps in the bathroom when brushing teeth, shaving, drinking, etc.
• Switch to an efficient showerhead which uses no more than 10 litres per minute
• Defrost foods in the fridge or naturally, rather than placing it under running water.
• Upgrade to a multi-flush toilet and/or put a water displacement item in the cistern which can halve your water use per flush.
• Fit taps with aerators or restrictors to reduce flow to no more than 6 litres per minute.
• Repair water and toilet drips and leaks.
We urge all customers to comply with the water restrictions in Tulbagh, to ensure that sufficient drinking water is available for all our residents.
